New York, February 1st 2008: I was blessed enough to sit down with Rachel Comey a couple months back and pick her brain about past seasons, inspirations, and most importantly, fall '08. She listed "Houdini, magic, 70s handicrafts, soft jewelry and soft musical instruments, tarot, miscellaneous things" as inspirations. Looks like things wents according to plan. Comey steped back a decade from her spring themes and presented a 30 piece collection reminiscent of the 40s, with an obvious misticism derived from Houdini himself. As expected, prints reigned, mix mached this time around. Each look was heavily layered, with a mix of vintage inspired and varying textured suite jackets, blousey tops under ruffles and a few printed silk dresses, all styled with a pair of stark white ankle socks. Fur made its way throughout the collection, which Comey swares came from those who died of natural causes. She pulled a couple rabbits out of her hat: my favorite being her black, knee lenghth, sleevless sheer dress. But whats magic without an element of surprise? Overall, delectable.
